Perinatal Mental Health

Pregnancy, birth, and new motherhood can be deeply meaningful—and deeply disorienting. The emotional landscape of this season is often more complex than anyone talks about. You might feel anxious, disconnected, angry, overwhelmed, or like you’re not yourself at all. Whether you’re preparing to become a parent, adjusting to life postpartum, or navigating a pregnancy loss, therapy offers space to slow down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and find your footing again.

This isn’t about “bouncing back.” It’s about tending to your mental and emotional well-being in a way that honors how much has changed—and how much you matter.

Becoming a mother doesn’t need to mean losing yourself.

I provide perinatal mental health support to:

  • Expectant mothers experiencing anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts

  • First-time moms adjusting to identity shifts, isolation, or relationship stress

  • Mothers with NICU experiences or complicated births

  • Women navigating perinatal grief or pregnancy loss

  • Clients with a history of trauma re-triggered during the perinatal period

  • Those experiencing postpartum depression or suicidal ideation

How Therapy Can Help

Together, we’ll focus on:

  • Making sense of difficult or conflicting emotions

  • Processing birth experiences and perinatal grief

  • Reducing shame, self-criticism, and isolation

  • Strengthening boundaries and communication in your relationships

  • Clarifying your values and priorities in this new season

  • Exploring existential and spiritual questions that often emerge during motherhood

My approach is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and meaning-oriented. I draw from modalities such as DBT, EMDR, and existential therapy, depending on your needs. I’m also pursuing advanced clinical certification in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) and doctoral research on perinatal suicidal ideation and meaning-centered approaches to maternal mental health—deepening my commitment to supporting mothers through some of their most vulnerable experiences.

You’re not failing—this is hard. And you don’t have to go through it alone.

 FAQs

  • Perinatal mental health includes more than just postpartum depression. I support clients through pregnancy anxiety, birth trauma, intrusive thoughts, grief after loss, identity shifts, relationship stress, and the emotional complexities of parenting. Whether you’re struggling to sleep, crying often, or just feeling unlike yourself—therapy can help you make sense of what you’re going through and start to feel more like you again.

  • Yes. You don’t have to hide or downplay what you're feeling. Many of my clients worry about being judged—or worse, not being believed—when they open up about scary thoughts or deep sadness. This space is different. I’m trained to support you through those feelings with care, not alarm. Talking honestly is the first step toward relief.

  • It’s okay—and more common than you think. Bonding isn’t always instant. Fatigue, trauma, depression, or anxiety can make connection feel far away, even when you love your baby deeply. We’ll explore what’s getting in the way and gently work toward building a relationship that feels real, grounded, and uniquely yours.

  • There’s a wide range of emotional experiences during pregnancy and postpartum. If your symptoms are getting in the way of daily life, relationships, or your ability to rest or function, it may be time for extra support. You don’t need to have a diagnosis to benefit from therapy. We’ll figure it out together, without labels or pressure

  • Absolutely. I support women navigating all kinds of perinatal trauma, including NICU stays, unexpected medical outcomes, fertility struggles, and miscarriage. Your grief and pain deserve care and validation.

  • Yes. I work with all caregivers who are navigating the mental health impact of growing a family. I also collaborate with psychiatrists and medical providers to make sure therapy complements your current treatment, not competes with it. It’s all part of building a strong, supportive team around you.
