Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Regulate Emotions. Improve Relationships. Feel Better.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, skills-based therapy that helps individuals make sense of overwhelming emotions, respond more effectively in relationships, and build lives that feel more stable and workable. It’s especially helpful for people dealing with chronic emotion dysregulation, anxiety, suicidality, self-harm, or big emotionsl swings that make daily life feel hard to manage.

At Momentum Therapy, DBT services are available in a variety of formats to meet your needs:

  • Individual DBT therapy for teens and young adults looking for structured support to build emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and self-acceptance.

  • Skills-focused support for clients who are working with a primary therapist but want to add DBT skills to their treatment plan.

  • Parent-focused DBT-informed coaching to help caregivers respond more effectively to emotional intensity, improve communication, and reduce power struggles at home.

  • Group skills training to practice DBT modules—Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness—in a supportive, guided setting.

Whether you're brand-new to DBT or looking to build on what you’ve already learned, we’ll tailor the work to your goals and real-life needs.

Stay tuned—additional group offerings and DBT resources will be added soon!

 FAQs

  • Yes. I often work alongside other therapists to offer skills-focused DBT support. If your primary therapist isn’t trained in DBT, we can coordinate care to make sure you’re getting what you need without disrupting the relationship you already have.

  • Nope. While some people benefit from the full DBT model, others may just need help building specific skills. We’ll discuss your goals together and create a plan that suits you—whether that’s individual therapy, group skills training, or short-term support.

  • Not at all. DBT was originally developed for those struggles, but it’s now widely used to help people manage anxiety, strong emotions, impulsive behaviors, or relationship challenges. If life feels chaotic or emotionally overwhelming, DBT might be a great fit.

  • Yes! I offer group skills training for teens and young adults, and I also run DBT-informed parent groups. These are structured, supportive spaces to learn and practice skills together. New offerings are added seasonally—feel free to reach out for current options.

  • A little—but nothing overwhelming. DBT is most helpful when you practice the skills outside of sessions. I’ll give you simple exercises and tools you can use in real time, so the therapy feels useful, not like more work.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your work, DBT can offer practical support to help you feel more steady and in control.
